From painting classrooms to advancing science education programs or raising awareness and funding for local charities helping food insecure neighbors, our colleagues play an active role in building better communities.
In 2021, 12 groups of employees from global PPG locations went above and beyond to make lasting differences in the lives of others. For their contributions to their communities, leading with kindness and helping others thrive, their sites have been named recipients of the 2021 PPG Community Engagement Awards.
Meet the Winners
PPG employees make life-changing contributions to their communities and their local neighbors. By completing impactful PPG COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® projects, addressing local social and community sustainability issues, building long-standing partnerships, engaging students in science and color and much more, their efforts stand out. Read on for highlights from each site.
Employees facilitated the PPG Scholarship Program at 10 local schools, benefitting 200 students with scholarships. Our volunteers also transformed learning environments for young students at two local schools through the Colorful Communities program, creating brilliant and refreshed campus environments at the TEDA Nursery School and TEDA Xingyoubaobei Autism Rehabilitation Center.
Huntsville, AL, USA
From educational programs like Space Camp and the Aviation Challenge at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center to scholarship opportunities through the Women’s Economic Development Foundation, local employees created partnerships in the areas of STEM education and local beautification efforts.
As part of the Quattordio Urban Art Festival, PPG volunteers completed a Colorful Communities project to create a vibrant PPG mural. Through multiple Charity Partner initiatives and to honor the memory of a colleague who died suddenly, local employees organized a fundraiser to support Fondazione Uspidalet and buy save-life equipment for young kids.
Brno, Czech Republic
To address ongoing hardships due to the pandemic, our employees supported local partners providing food, educational resources and family support to those in need. Following an F4 tornado South Moravia region, the team mobilized to provide financial assistance, all while actively supporting several Charity Partners and educational programs.
Delaware, Ohio, USA
Supporting local educational and career training programs, employees teamed up with the Center of Science and Industry to distribute STEM supplies to young students and partnered with the Delaware Area Career Center to support the collision repair training program. Joining Cool Tech Girls and the American Association of University Women, PPG employees in science-related fields inspired future female STEM leaders.
From supporting the Buzzi Children Hospital to purchase COVID-19 medical equipment to completing a Colorful Communities project to renovate an interactive chemistry laboratory at National Museum of Science and Technology “Leonardo Da Vinci,” our employees supported a range of local organizations in providing educational and essential services.
Pittsburgh, PA, USA
Members of PPG’s Pittsburgh Area Science Education Council sponsored STEM educational events including National Chemistry Week “Chemfest” and the SciTech and STEM Adventure at the Carnegie Science Center. Volunteers also demonstrated scientific concepts at events like the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair and the Latino Community Center’s Back to School Bash.
Supporting their neighbors facing food insecurity, inspiring future, female STEM professionals and beautifying spaces for children, employees supported the food bank Banco Alimentar contra a Fome, completed two Colorful Communities projects and joined the educational program STEM Talent Girl.
To help their community combat the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, employees provided hygiene and sanitary equipment to community centers, helped to set up a special COVID-19 care center, procured and distributed oxygen concentrators and provided food and other essential supplies to families in need.
PPG employees completed a several Colorful Communities projects, adding vibrancy to two local schools and the new PPG Stiwewa Buurtcentrum (Community Center). The Center was designed to provide social support for area residents, including educational and employment assistance for young people and fun, recreational programs for all. PPG Stiwewa also provided financial support to build the community center.
Runcorn, United Kingdom
Through a “virtual walk” from Paris to London, employees gathered donations for every step to support their charity partner, Halton Haven Hospice. In addition to facilitating grants throughout the year, on Giving Tuesday, the team made Christmas packages for underprivileged families and donated goods for a local animal shelter.
